Sunday 1st December 9am – 11am @ property ‘Mardie’ at 345 Greta Road, Glenrowan West (from Greta side use first entrance, from Benalla take second entrance) – follow Regent Honeyeater signs.
We have received funding to help bring you a series of workshops to help you learn to grow your own native plants from seed and cuttings. Our first workshop will be learning how to collect native seed and we have been invited to join the Regent Honeyeater Project Co-ordinator Andie Guerin and his team, to collect seed from their seed orchard in Glenrowan West.
The seed orchard was set up by Andie back in 2014 with the aims of improving the genetics of seed for their program and for providing large volumes of seed for direct seeding. Establishment of the seed orchard was funded by Goulburn Broken CMA and guided by Linda Broadhurst from CSIRO.
Last year our Landcare group purchased over 5000 plants from their Benalla nursery for our projects. This series of workshops will also allow us to help collect and propagate seed for plants that will be used in planting programs in our area next winter. Andie is a horticulturist and you will be sure to enjoy the morning and learn some fundamental skills that will be of use for growing plants for your own property.
All welcome, free event. Morning tea provided. Please register online at www.tinyurl.com/GVLGseedcollect or text Sally on 0437 136 162 so that we know to expect you. Please share with neighbours and friends. Please wear long pants and sturdy shoes, and bring a hat, water bottle and gloves.
